NEASDEN GAELS CLUB HISTORY
|
Neasden Gaels Gaelic Football team are based in Kingsbury, North West London. Neasden Gaels GFC were founded into the junior ranks of London GAA in February 1989 following a meeting between officials at McDonagh’s Bar in Kingsbury with teams entered into London GAA in 1990. The founder members were Michael Cleary (Manchester), Roger O’Connor (Sligo), Jim Devine (Longford), Bobby Moynihan (Kerry), Claire Moynihan (London), Danny O’Sullivan (Kerry) and Michael McDonagh, proprietor of McDonagh’s Bar and a native of Galway who was also appointed as Neasden Gael’s first team manager.
Neasden Gaels quickly won the Junior Championship incompetition (1992) and grew into a Senior side in 1997 by winning the 1996 Intermediate championship, but an early highlight came within 10 years of the clubs foundation when Neasden Gaels won the London Senior Championship in 1999. Neasden Gaels GFC contested both the 2008, 2009 and won the 2010 London Senior Championship final and came close to being the first ever London club team to progress to an All Senior Ireland Club semi final in 2011 with a All Ireland Quarter final defeat against title favourites Crossmaglen Rangers.
Neasden Gaels GFC is a progressive, professional, tight knit Senior football club who are always looking to give new players a warm welcome into the fold. Neasden Gaels are in confident mood for Gaelic football honours in 2011 and we are aiming to win both the London Division 1 Senior League and the London Senior Championship in 2011, so join now to be part of the next Neasden Gaels GFC successes. Neasden Gaels GFC will commence training again @ 8pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Jubilee Park in late March 2011.
Following the successful trip to Dubai for the Gulf Games 2007 in January 2007, Neasden Gaels GFC travelled to Boston in March 2008 to play Connemara Gaels GFC. Neasden Gaels GFC also traveled to New York to play Cork GFC NYC in March 2010. For the 2011 annual club trip planning is 29 club members will head to Las Vegas & San Francisco.
