A Chara,

Neasden Gaels Gaelic Football team are based in Kingsbury, North West London. Neasden Gaels were founded into the junior ranks of London GAA in February 1989 following a meeting between officials at McDonagh’s Bar in Kingsbury. The founder members were Michael Cleary (Manchester), Roger O’Connor (Sligo), Jim Devine (Longford), Bobby Moynihan (Kerry), Claire Moynihan (London), Danny O’Sullivan (Kerry) and Michael McDonagh, proprietor of McDonagh’s Bar and a native of Galway who was also appointed as Neasden Gael’s first team manager.

Neasden Gaels quickly won the Junior Championship and grew into a Senior side in 1997 by winning the 1996 Intermediate championship, but the highlight came within 10 years of the clubs foundation when Neasden won the London Senior Championship in 1999.

The Neasden Gaels team which lined out in the 1999 London county final was: Anthony Finn; Seamus Cummins, Mick Kennafick, Eoin Corkery; Keith Geraghty, Paul Maher, David Byrne; Eddie Walsh, Tommy Walsh; Fergal Cunningham, Kieran Macken, Conor Macken; Timmy Corkery (captain), John Tuite, Marcus O’Sullivan.

Today’s squad contains players from 13 counties across Ireland but with strong representation from Galway and Armagh while there are also three of the 1999 championship winning side in Fergal Cunningham (who is Neasden Gael’s Manager today), Keith Geraghty and Stephen Maguire.

Neasden Gaels have joint captain's today, Barry McDonagh who is from Curry club in Sligo, while Michael Greene hails from the Doonbeg club in Clare.

In a re-run of last year’s final, Neasden Gaels are hoping to overturn last year’s single point loss to Tir Chonaill Gaels and deliver a second senior title in our 20th year! Again much work has been put in throughout 2009 off the pitch by the tireless Neasden Gaels committee to provide a very bright future and the club can now boast of superb facilities in our Jubilee Park and Kingsbury FC Town grounds.

Neasden Gaels would like to thank the 2009 committee of Tommy Donaghue (Vice Chairman), Ursula Murphy (Secretary), Paul Goff (Treasurer), Michael Maloney (Assistant Treasurer), Michael McDonagh (Assistant Secretary), Danny O’Sullivan (President) for their hard work in the background, as well as team management of Fergal Cunningham (Manager), Kevin Moore (Selector) and Michael McDonagh (Selector) in getting the team this far. Also a special thanks to Sharon Scanlan our Physiotherapist and Liz McDonagh for after training/match catering all year.

Also Neasden Gaels would like to thank sponsors Bam Nuttall, CT Systems, Eastern District Construction, MT Maloney & Sons, EML Contractors, McDonagh’s Bar and Kingsbury Town Clubhouse for their generous sponsorship throughout 2009.

Mise, le meas,
Brian Mulry (Chairman Neasden Gaels GFC)
